The CaroMont Health Cares Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions

Every great investment starts with understanding. This community deserves a healthcare system fully staffed, locally rooted and built to last. If you're considering a gift or simply want to know more, you're in the right place.

What is the CaroMont Health Cares Campaign?

The Cares Campaign is the CaroMont Health Foundation's inaugural capital campaign, a scholarship initiative created to build a skilled, local healthcare workforce in Gaston County. It funds education and training for community residents pursuing healthcare careers, ensuring CaroMont Health can attract, develop and retain the qualified professionals needed to serve this growing region for decades to come.

What is the CaroMont Health Foundation?

Established in 1985, the CaroMont Health Foundation has spent nearly four decades channeling community generosity into grants, scholarships and health initiatives that benefit Greater Gaston residents. The Foundation exists because CaroMont Health's commitment to this community extends beyond clinical care, and fulfilling that commitment requires community partnership.

Why does CaroMont Health's independence matter?

As a community-based, not-for-profit health system, CaroMont Health answers to this community, not to a distant corporate parent. That independence means every decision about care, staffing and investment is made with Gaston County at the center. The Cares Campaign is one way the community can help ensure that independence remains strong.

What makes this scholarship different from standard financial aid?

The Cares Campaign goes beyond financial assistance. Recipients receive ongoing mentorship and professional support throughout their education and as they begin their careers at CaroMont Health. This whole-person approach reflects CaroMont's Care First philosophy: individualized investment in people, not just tuition checks.

Is there an employment commitment required of recipients?

Yes. Scholarship recipients commit to two years of employment at a CaroMont Health facility upon graduation, supported by a promissory note. Employees who stay at least two years are significantly more likely to build long-term careers within the organization, giving both the recipient and the community a lasting return on the investment.

What is the campaign's fundraising goal?

The Cares Campaign has a goal of $15 million. Reaching that goal means fully funding 130 scholarships annually across five programs in partnership with local colleges and schools, and securing a sustainable pipeline of local healthcare talent for years to come.

Where does my gift go?

Your gift directly funds scholarships for Gaston County residents who train for healthcare careers and commit to working at CaroMont Health. Because clinical care revenue alone cannot support this initiative, philanthropic gifts are essential. Every dollar raised moves the campaign closer to its fully funded goal.

How does my gift benefit the broader community?

When local residents earn healthcare credentials and build careers here, the benefits ripple outward. Stable, well-paying jobs strengthen families and households. A well-staffed health system keeps the community healthy and attracts further economic investment. A gift to the Cares Campaign is ultimately an investment in Greater Gaston's long-term vitality.
